Yorkshire Permaculture Design Course 2014

...big thinking, practical tools, positive ways forward...
8th - 23rd August 2014

69 This summer give your brain, body, heart and soul a treat by immersing yourself in permaculture at Paddock Farm in the beautiful Colne Valley. A two week summer school, bringing together doers and thinkers who are exploring new ways of living in this time of complexity and uncertainty. Follow your dreams to the thinking person’s holiday!

"I thought I'd learn mostly about growing veg, but permaculture is so much more - this course gives you a 'manual for life and for living'" - previous course participant.

During our two weeks together we will focus on the practical things we can do and the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to live well and sustainably.  With a wealth of experience and knowledge, lead tutor Niels Corfield (director, Edible Cities) with additional input from Andy Goldring (co-ordinator and CEO Permaculture Association) will guide the group in looking closely at the really important things in life. Permaculture takes it’s inspiration from natural systems and we will use it’s principles and practice to think innovatively and design ways to produce food, generate and use energy, house ourselves, create community, work productively, travel efficiently and live well.

67

Andy and Niels will be supported by a team of experts, dropping in to deliver master classes in systems thinking, ecological building, behaviour change, community supported business, woodland management and enterprise, renewable energy, local food systems, dialogue and deliberation to name but a few (more details on pdf below).

57

We’ll also have plenty of time to play, enjoy each other’s company, lie in the grass, eat food from the farm, create music, sit round bonfires, study privately, walk, enjoy the delights of Marsden and Slaithwaite and generally have fun in a relaxing and beautiful environment.  We have a beautiful swimming reservoir just a couple of minutes from us, for early morning and evening dips.  If you want to taste some of the remaining Yorkshire Tour highlights we can arrange an evening cycle up Holme Moss.

68

The course will provide a mix of theory sessions, hands on work on the smallholding, visits to local projects, team work, games, films and evening master classes.

Edibles at Paddock Farm are delighted to host this event.  Our forest garden, annual polyculture beds, polytunnel, edible nursery, renewable energy technology, cob oven, hugel bed and eco-barn conversion  will all be used during the course to develop a practical understanding of permaculture design and associated techniques.
